How long can you leave a fan heater on?

Fan heaters are a great addition to a chilly bedroom or a draughty living room, but how long can they be left on? Today, Dreamland will break down the main points to consider when you’re contemplating leaving a fan heater on.

Understanding how fan heaters work

As you may be aware, fan heaters work by warming the heating element and using a fan to expel hot air throughout a space, warming a room in the process.

Fan heaters and other types of electric heaters are typically easy to move and take up minimal space, making them ideal for students or apartment living. That doesn’t mean they cannot be used to heat up a larger room, but this may take slightly longer.

Most fan heaters will come with specific efficiencies, such as energy efficiency and heat rates, but this is all estimated as the size and insulation level of a room have to be considered too. These can help you save money on bills when heating your home.

Are Fan Heaters Safe?

Fan heaters are perfectly fine to use when used safely and appropriately. Many things around a home could be considered unsafe if used incorrectly, such as a boiler or a gas hob, but when all rules are followed, it is perfectly fine to use a fan heater throughout the day.

Here at Dreamland, safety is our number one priority, which is why we have designed the safest fan heaters on the market. With flexible operating settings and an IP21 protection degree, potential issues around water droplets and condensation are completely removed.

Simply pick from our pre-set time options (1 hour, 3 hours, or 9 hours), and enjoy our auto-switch-off system once your allotted time has passed.

You should also clean your fan heater regularly, to help keep it in top condition.

The different types of electric heaters

Although we have mainly been discussing electric fan heaters within this article, there are different types of heaters you can choose from.

Ceramic Heaters

Similar to a fan heater, a ceramic heater uses a fan, but instead of a heating element being heated, a ceramic plate is heated instead. These are considered one of the safer electrical heaters on the market. Similar to electric fan heaters, they push out heat incredibly quickly and can be used in small to medium-sized rooms.

Oil Heaters

Oil heaters, also known as radiator heaters, are an older type of heater that heats up oil which lives inside metal fins, which then heat up. This heat eventually leaves the fins, warming the surrounding area.

These types of heaters can be incredibly convenient if you are looking to warm a space for a long time, as the oil will stay warm even after the device has been turned off.

One large issue you may find is the potential fire and burn risk that oil heaters bring. Oil heaters retain heat really well and will be hot to the touch when used. Meaning that any children or pets that brush past them could burn themselves. The oil within the heater is also flammable, which always comes with the risk of catching fire.

Infrared Heaters

Infrared heaters can be found in pub gardens and outside spaces. Recognised by their iconic orange ambient lighting, infrared heaters use infrared rays to heat objects, such as people, instead of heating the air itself. The infrared radiation travels through the air and is then absorbed by the object it lands on. The radiation causes molecules to vibrate, causing heat.

How long can you leave a Fan Heater on for?

The longest you can leave a Dreamland Fan Heater on for is 9 hours. This is because of the auto-timer safety feature, which automatically turns the heater off after a specified amount of time.

That does not mean that 9 hours is the longest it can be operated for, but just ensures that the fan heater is not forgotten about throughout the day. However, you should keep an eye on your fan heater, and don’t leave it unattended when you leave the house.
